Nickel and Cobalt Ores: Flotation

چکیده

Most of the world’s nickel is extracted from the mineral pentlandite, (Ni, Fe)9S8, which frequently occurs in ores containing predominantly pyrrhotite and various non-sulRdes, some of which contain magnesium (Table 1). The nickel content in such sulRde ores is generally low (0.2}3%) and varies from place to place in the same deposit. The low nickel content of the present-day nickel sulRde ores renders them unsuitable for either direct smelting or hydrometallurgical extraction, thus requiring beneRciation. The usual method of nickel extraction from sulRde ores is through the production of nickel matte after enriching the nickel content of the ore. This is commonly carried out by magnetic separation, Sotation, or a combination of both after the ore is comminuted to below 200 m in size. The enrichment depends upon the degree of rejection of the other sulRde and non-sulRde gangue. The maximum grade of nickel achieved by Sotation is around 28% Ni.

Dissolution of Nickel and Cobalt from Iron-Rich Laterite Ores Using Different Organic Acids

Due to the decreasing production of nickel and cobalt from sulfide sources, the Ni and Co extraction from the oxide ores (laterites) have become more prevalent. In this research work, the effects of calcination prior to leaching, acid concentration, percent solid, pH, and stirring speed on the nickel and cobalt recoveries from an iron-rich laterite ore sample were investigated using diffe...

Studies of the Mechanism of Rock Mineral Flotation at Clarabelle Mill

At the Clarabelle mill, significant amounts of rock minerals float inadvertently during nickel and copper sulfide flotation, causing poor concentrate grades. It is known that the rock minerals that report to the concentrates are amphiboles and phyllosilicates. However, the latter are found only on concentrates obtained by processing highly altered ores. The amphiboles, which occur as both prima...

A New Direction for Biomining: Extraction of Metals by Reductive Dissolution of Oxidized Ores

Biomining, the biotechnology that uses microorganisms to extract metals from ores and concentrates, is currently used exclusively for processing reduced ores and mine wastes. Metals of economic value also occur extensively in oxidized ores, such as nickel laterites. While these are not amenable to oxidative dissolution, the ferric iron minerals they contain can, in theory, be disrupted by iron ...

Primary Native Silver Ores at Batopilas, Mexico, and Bullard's Peak, New Mexico

Many of the silver deposits on which there is seemingly general agreement as to their hypogene (primary) origin, and particularly those deposits in which native silver is a fairly common constituent, show a characteristic association of nickel and cobalt arsenides with native silver or other silver minerals. In view of the generally recognized hypogene origin of the nickel and cobalt arsenides ...

Flotation-separation and ICP-AES determination of ultra trace amounts of copper, cadmium, nickel and cobalt using 2-aminocyclopentene-1-dithiocarboxylic acid.

A rapid flotation method for separation and enrichment of ultra trace amounts of copper(II), cadmium(II), nickel(II) and cobalt(II) ions from water samples is established. At pH 6.5 and with sodium dodecylsulfate used as a foaming reagent, Cu2+, Cd2+, Ni2+ and Co2+ were separated simultaneously with 2-aminocyclopentene-1-dithiocarboxylic acid (ACDA) added to 1 l of aqueous solution. The propose...
